About Carolyn
Welcome in to my world! I am a retired language arts middle school teacher who taught 6th, 7th & 8th graders for 35 years, which included countless hours of planning lessons, correcting papers and going to meetings! In addition to to teaching, I was also an English Department Head and a coach for girls basketball and cheerleading teams. I absolutely LOVED teaching and still have many, many students who I continue to keep in touch with!
While not teaching anymore, my days are jammed-packed with all kinds of activities. My favorites are meandering through flea markets, collecting antiques and working outside in my yard, aptly named Whimsy & Weeds! I have a large vegetable garden along with 5 flower gardens that keep my pretty busy! I have all different types of birds, insects, wild turkeys, deer, foxes and even bears who find their way onto my property. But the best way to spend time is with my grandchildren who ALWAYS brighten my days.
The story behind the book
My first children’s book, Santa’s Spies Are Fireflies, is a story I made up many years ago that was based on an incident that happened to my son who was 5 years old at the time, and my daughter who was 3. Their young friends were told the story too, and even now the blinks of the summertime fireflies bring them (and now their children) back to my yard where the fireflies kept them all in line during the summer! This firefly tale has had staying power that I hope will be carried on to the next generation! Remember…Santa is ALWAYS WATCHING!
